EndNote

EndNote is a bibliographic management software tool. Highlights include these options and so much more:
  • Connects to online databases to search for references (citations of articles) including PubMed.
  • Organizes references using Groups specific to anything you choose including authors, subjects, and articles that you are writing.
  • Find and add PDFs with the click of a button.
  • Creates reference lists for manuscripts in many different styles.
  • Share libraries or groups with colleagues.

EndNote 20 is available to download! Follow the instructions to download from the Software Center

Before you Install EndNote please be aware of these things:

  • EndNote can only be downloaded on a Cincinnati Children's desktop or laptop* due to our license agreement.
  • NEVER save an EndNote library to a cloud syncing website (e.g OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox etc.)! 
  • Close all Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint before starting this installation.
  • Call Information Services (513) 636-4100 to install updates unless you have administrative rights to your computer.

*To use EndNote on a personal computer please see EndNote Online in the side navigation bar for more information. You must be on a Cincinnati Children's computer and on campus to sign up for a two year account.

WINDOWS

  • Go to the Start Flag  (bottom left of your computer) and type in Software Center.
  • Click on EndNote 20 and follow the prompts to install.

MAC

  • Go to Spotlight search and type in Self service.
  • Locate EndNote 20 and follow the prompts to install. 

KNOWN ISSUES

Please note that Endnote advises users not to save libraries to the following cloud based services: Amazon Cloud, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, Office 365 (this includes One Drive), Sharepoint etc..

EndNote offers even more downloadable extras on their website:
  • Output Styles - Search and download to find styles not included in the 500 found in Endnote desktop or to update versions.
  • Filters - Search and download to add new filters that allow you to import references saved from databases that do not have an automatic export feature e.g. EMBASE.
  • Connections - Search and download to add databases if you have access through another university.
  • Updates - Search and download the latest updates for a specific version of Endnote
  • Templates - Search and download these to format papers for specific journals or publishers.
