Altmetric (Article Level Metrics)

Altmetric is a non-traditional metric for scholarly publications online.

  • Includes sources such as blogs, news media, social media, downloads or page views of an article on a publisher's website and reference manager downloads (e.g. Mendeley)

  • Can be useful for professional advancement including CVs, tenure, and grant applications

  • Indicates ATTENTION not quality!

Symplectic Elements (licensed by Cincinnati Children's)

Find Altmetrics for your publications in Symplectic. For more information:

  • Login to Symplectic.
  • In the Home tab, go to the My Publications box and click on Journal Articles
  • Make sure the Detailed view is set as your view (it will say the opposite...Compact view in the upper right corner).
  • If your publication has an Altmetric the information is located in the bottom right hand corner of the publication. Please keep in mind Altmetric started in 2009 so it is less likely to have an Altmetric.
