Author Identifiers

A Unique Author Identifier is a  tool that can help researchers identify their specific publications. The benefits of a Unique Author Identifier include:

  • Disambiguate common names and multiple institutional affiliations (e.g. Jane D. Smith UC versus Jane D. Smith at NKU)
  • Authors can identify and collect their work for others to find quickly
  • Citations and impact of individual papers and authors can be more accurately measured
  • Accurate evaluation of an author’s productivity and impact in their field
  • More precise institutional publication metrics

Tools include but are not limited to:

  • ORCID iD
  • Scopus Author Profile
  • ResearcherID (Web of Science product only available to Cincinnati Children's Faculty via UC Libraries)

Unique Author Identifier (UAI) tools

UAI's help authors properly identify and collect their publications. They provide the most complete list of publications that can then be used for grant information, sharing with colleagues or other data collection processes. The NIH is asking for a UAI e.g. ORCID when applying for a grants. Here are some of the UAI's a researcher can use.
